Personal Art

In between homework and working on the BYU films, I draw just for fun.
Sunday is the day I draw people with cats.

These last two are for a personal film that i'm doing. Her design will be tweaked a little, but she's close to final here.
Here's a teaser board from my storyboards. Boarding will be done by the end of the semester then animation will begin! I'm excited, i've wanted to begin this project for years. I'm glad to finally start it, it's personal to me and I hope it will keep turning out well.

Draw on!

Winter Update

It's been a little while since i've updated, so I thought I'd post some of the things i've been working on. When i'm not animating for one of the many films currently in production here at BYU, i'm drawing whatever is fun to me at the moment.
Sundays are the best kind of days.
Sketch of Sherlock from Elementary.
I really loved Warm Bodies...

These next ones are some designs of the main character for a personal short film i'm currently storyboarding. I'm still trying to work her design out.

And here is a sketchbook sketch. I've loved being able to carry around my sketchbook everywhere again and sketch from life.

I'm spending most of my time animating on the traditionally animated film here at school, but the start date for the 3D animated film is fast approaching. Our head animator for the film has us animate bouncing balls of various weights in Maya to get a feel for the program, so here's a bowling ball.
Maya and I are still trying to develop a friendly relationship.
Here's a ping pong ball.

And the blocking for a personal scene i'm working on. On to smoothing it out!

Thanks for checking in!

Film Work

This semester is proving to be super busy. I'm working on two films that are in production right now at BYU, one of which is a 2D film.
These are some emotions for one of the characters. I wanted to see how far I could push her facial expressions and reactions without breaking her character.

Here are some more emotions and gestures for her.

Here are some gestures/expressions for another film in production here at BYU.
In between animating at school, i'm doing a 30 day art challenge. Here are some of those drawings:

Least Favorite Animal

Favorite Book

Favorite Pokemon

This was testing out the new Frenden brushes I recently purchased. I highly recommend them, they're amazing.

More to come!

Catching up on sketching

Here is some character exploration sketches for Lucy, one of the characters from a short film being produced here at BYU. The title is Bothered and is being directed by Christina Skyles. We're currently working on character designing. I'll be animating on the film, so I wanted to play with the current design for Lucy and try to get some acting sketches down.
I needed to choose a cool art style for my course at work, so I experimented with this piece. Heavily influenced by Kako's work.
Here is my final for digital painting. It's where the Wolf Mafia spends their time.

My final for Drawing for Animation. We had to take an already existing character and render it realistically, for 10-14 year old boys, and for 4-7 year old girls. I chose Capn' Crunch with Tony the Tiger and Toucan Sam.

Someitmes it's nice to be able to just draw away from school assignments. I sketched a lot during the break for fun. Recently I started a 30 day sketch challenge:
Day 1- Yourself
Day 2- Your Favorite Animal. My favorite animals are wolves, orcas, and Philippine Eagles. I combined them all into one ultimate favorite animal.
I plan on continuing the challenge, though they may not be as consecutive as I would like with school back in session! The next day is favorite food, so that should be a fun one.

Sometimes I just get an itch to draw dogs.
Well okay, more like all the time.

Last semester, my friend Kiersten started a sketch group for a bunch of us students. It's been a lot of fun so far! We have a new theme every day. I did this one for the day that had the theme of "Lackadaisy cats in the style of Mary Blair":

(on a side note, if you haven't read the webcomic Lackadaisy, then you should be. I'll kindly direct you there right now)

Another sketch theme, this one was "Humanoid Pokemon". I turned Ninetails into a woman who loves fur. Ninetail's fur...

These are just some tiger gestures from watching the cats play across Youtube.

That's it for now!

Blocking

So this is my first 3D animation I've done since I've been back. Now it's just blocking, but it's been fun! I got some good critique to apply to the next go around that i'll be posting soon.
It's good to be animating again!
