Winter Update

It's been a little while since i've updated, so I thought I'd post some of the things i've been working on. When i'm not animating for one of the many films currently in production here at BYU, i'm drawing whatever is fun to me at the moment.
Sundays are the best kind of days.
Sketch of Sherlock from Elementary.
I really loved Warm Bodies...

These next ones are some designs of the main character for a personal short film i'm currently storyboarding. I'm still trying to work her design out.

And here is a sketchbook sketch. I've loved being able to carry around my sketchbook everywhere again and sketch from life.

I'm spending most of my time animating on the traditionally animated film here at school, but the start date for the 3D animated film is fast approaching. Our head animator for the film has us animate bouncing balls of various weights in Maya to get a feel for the program, so here's a bowling ball.
Maya and I are still trying to develop a friendly relationship.
Here's a ping pong ball.

And the blocking for a personal scene i'm working on. On to smoothing it out!

Thanks for checking in!

Film Work

This semester is proving to be super busy. I'm working on two films that are in production right now at BYU, one of which is a 2D film.
These are some emotions for one of the characters. I wanted to see how far I could push her facial expressions and reactions without breaking her character.

Here are some more emotions and gestures for her.

Here are some gestures/expressions for another film in production here at BYU.
In between animating at school, i'm doing a 30 day art challenge. Here are some of those drawings:

Least Favorite Animal

Favorite Book

Favorite Pokemon

This was testing out the new Frenden brushes I recently purchased. I highly recommend them, they're amazing.

More to come!

Of Horses, Sweets, and Zuni Deer

It's been a while since i've updated, so here's a little peek at school work.

I've been drawing a lot of animals for class lately. I love sketching animals!
We designed animals for Ryan's character design class:
And then came emulation. First I chose fun comic book artist Scottie Young:

Then decided to try Sean Galloway's style:

For Joe's class, we had to redesign our toys to be miniature figures.

And i've been drawing a lot of fun work on the side as well. Here's me as a racer from Sugar Rush, the game in Disney's Wreck It Ralph.

And a quick WIP run cycle of my egyptian horse design.

Tigger animation

As promised, here is my final animation for Cynthia's animation class last semester. This is the work of the last three months. I chose to animate Tigger because he was the first thing I thought of when I heard this music. This was a practice in syncing animation with music, telling a story in the animation, and linking scenes so they match up and make sense. There are still a lot of glaring problems that need to be hammered out, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. I learned so much and he was incredibly fun to animate!

Now onward to animate something new!
Tigger is © Disney and the sound clip is from the soundtrack of Miyazaki's film Howl's Moving Castle.
